REIMPOSITION OF TOURISM TAX ON FOREIGN TOURISTS

 

Effective from 1 January 2023, foreign tourists staying at registered accommodation premises in Malaysia are subject to pay a Tourism Tax of RM10 per room per night. The reimposition of Tourism Tax on foreign tourist is mandatory and regulated by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

 

Under the Tourism Tax (Exemption) Order 2017, Malaysians and Permanent Residents with MyPR cards are exempted from paying the Tourism Tax.

The Island along with the protected Marine Park is located in the richly diverse South China Sea and the archipelago comprises of nine islands (Lima Island, Paku Besar Island, Paku Kecil Island, Kerengga Besar Island, Kerengga Kecil Island, Ekor Tebu Island, Batu Ling Island, Pinang Island and the main Redang Island). All the reefs around this area is protected by the Marine & Fisheries department to ensure the region protects its underwater heritage and ecosystem.

 

There are more than 30 dive locations, filled with both beautiful hard and soft corals. Expect to see turtles, reef sharks (harmless to humans), various marine species including moray eels, angel fish, barracuda, napoleon, triggerfish, rainbow runner, giant stingray, cuttlefish, octopus, nudibranch and more.
